DanceCraft®: Accredited Dance Program

The body of DanceCraft is a codified syllabus of the Zoe Jakes format. It’s purpose is to provide a structure in which dancers can progress towards an achievable goal, and to provide an opportunity to build a dancer’s skills intelligently and clearly. This format applies strong technical training as a framework for artistry and creative expression.

DanceCraft focuses on dance technique, strength and flexibility, musicality, choreography, improvisation, critical thinking, stamina, analysis, teamwork, belly dance history, teaching and creating original work.

DANCECRAFT PREPARATORY:

The Preparatory is a 2-3 day intensive with 3-4 dancing hours per day (depending on city).  There is no homework, testing or certification.  This is a chance for you to get familiar with the material we will be covering in the format.  We HIGHLY RECOMMEND that anyone without 3 years of belly dance training takes the preparatory before taking the Key of Diamonds.  We realize the Key of Diamonds is challenging and without the introduction to the work or 3 years of belly dance training, you may have a difficult time in class and may not pass the test.

key-of-diamondsKEY OF DIAMONDS:

Diamonds relate to the Earth element. This is our foundation.
The Key of Diamonds curriculum includes choreography, beginning finger cymbals, basic concept work and Zoe’s Tribal Fusion aesthetic.

Certification and testing:

Certification will be awarded to those who have 100% participation in all classes and activities and pass the final exam at the end of the intensive. There is a $50 testing fee due at the beginning of the intensive.

Prerequisites:

All participants must learn one choreography by video that will be available at least one month before the intensive. Must get the “Playing Finger Cymbals with Jamila Salimpour” CD. Practice and work with this before the intensive. Understand the language of the Jamila finger cymbal format.

Read: The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. Submit a book review on day one of the intensive.

key-of-spadesKEY OF SPADES:

Key of Spades is Level 2 of DanceCraft.  In this level, we will go deeper into the work of the format and begin to play with dynamics and choreographic devices and learn how to be a company dance member.  Registration is open to graduates of the Key of Diamonds only.

Key of Clubs – Teacher Training:

This intensive is to certify instructors for teaching the material for Key of Diamonds.  Training will include further development of technique in Zoe’s specific stylization and way of movement.  We want our Diamonds teachers to have integrated skill and proficiency in the format.  Open to graduates of Key of Spades.

Key of Clubs – Performance Intensive:

Daily choreography creation and performance skills will push you to the next level as a choreographer, dancer and performer.  This is a more intimate learning experience with a lot of one on one training and daily feedback from Zoe.  Available by audition only.
